Tutorial: Painting Orc Flesh
Posted: 22. 04. 2024.
I got a lot of comments asking how I paint the skin on all those orcs I've been posting on Instagram lately. So here is the recipe!
And below is the completed figure, with the rest of the warband. These guys make a starting crew for the skirmish game Cauldron from Hill Giant Games. I won a copy of the rulebook for placing in an online contest they organised last year. The giant I sculpted came 2nd. Anyway, the Cauldron rulebook looks rad and the game is all about orcs, goblins, trolls, and critters fighting it out in a swamp world. You can check it out here: WARGAME VAULT.
The six minis in the warband were all sculpted by Kev Adams and were sourced from four different companies: Knightmare Miniatures, Black Tree Design, Old School Miniatures, and Impact! Miniatures.

You’re welcome!
I’m actually using both metallics AND very sharp non-metallic highlights. I have lots more orcs to paint, so maybe I should do a tutorial for the metal as well!
These are absolutely beautiful sculpts with a smashing paint job to match. A tutorial on the metal would be wonderful. I love the way it looks.
Thanks Iain! Noted.
Thanks for making the tutorial; these look great. I have a copy of Hoggtwegg myself somewhere. The Knightmare range looks wonderful - I particularly like their Wolf Riders.
Do you have a guide anywhere for how you painted the armour? It looks really effective and simple but I can’t tell if you’re using metallics or just very sharp highlights?
