Landing on the Nekroplanet

Let’s have a look at my newest scenery build project: the Lander. I’ve previously made a smaller scale version meant only for scenic photo use (you can see it in THIS POST). Now I made one to scale with the Nekroplanet gaming minis. Besides enabling sick shots of Raiders arriving on the planet’s surface, this lander will serve as the Escape Vehicle for the Evacuation scenario in our skirmish game.
This was actually my second attempt at building the lander. The first ended up scrapped because I used the wrong material for the main body: a styrofoam ball. While this made some of the greebling easier, the final build was extremely messy and I simply didn’t find it acceptable. This successful attempt is based on a plastic sphere I bought in an arts&crafts shop.
The sphere was first sanded and cleaned with alcohol, in order to help the stuff I glue on top stick better.
I dug into my tubs of toy parts and interesting trash I save for builds like this one. First I added the largest elements on the lander: landing gear, engines, and assorted larger protrusions. All of this needs to be sanded and cleaned before gluing, too. I used hot glue and superglue to attach them. Pinning is also a good idea to make the build sturdier.
After that it’s greebling time. This always eats up hours of my time, especially on a model this large. But it has to be done, and it’s actually rather fun.
The model was sprayed white and painted with acrylics and oil washes.
This month we also have new Nekroplanet Grob resin figures dropping from Ramshackle Games.
Raider Hacker is capable of breaking into tech, including disrupting and even controlling Grobnik AI. Now we’re only missing the Juggernaut to have the full roster.
I converted some alternative models for existing units. The Troopers and Sentries are hired in pairs, so I wanted to have at least one alternative pose for them.
The alternative Grunt sports a different helmet and weapon design.
As always, thanks to my paying Patreon members! Making this stuff takes time and effort, and becoming a paying member is one way you can reward it.

Thank you!
The unified art direction of your work is second to none, just a beautiful little slice of the cosmos rendered in plastic and metal.
Love Nekroplanet, its whats got me finally creating some of my first scrach built items.
What and where did you get those Octagon rings?
@Void Halation - Thank you!
@Isophar - They’re cut out of some kind of plastic mat. I think it may be something for the kitchen? You can actually see it the top left corner of the third WIP photo.
I love your Nekroplanet work! It is so creative and stylish! Awesome work - especially the hacker!
